ASI: Reviving the Spirit of Service

January 2017 saw the rebirth of the Adventist-Laymen’s Services and Industries (ASI) in the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. ASI is a world-wide organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church which comprises laypersons involved in professions, industry, education, and/or service. In our territory, we have expanded to include college/university students as well as retirees because they too have a valuable contribution to make. ASI-South Bahamas Conference (SBC) exists to provide challenge, nurture, and experience in Sharing Christ in the Market Place as well as support the global mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. We exist to fulfill the mission of ASI in our jurisdiction. We do this by utilizing our talents, time and resources (inclusive of finances), not only locally but globally all in an effort to help and to improve the quality of life for our fellowmen.

Since its revival, with a new focus, the executive team and membership led by President Ian Greene Sr., has embarked on a number of initiatives (inclusive of Island Mission which is led by Trustee Audley Mitchell, employment of Bible workers), programmes (ASI Sabbaths, quarterly General Meetings, ASI Trade Fair and ASI Business Reception), and fundraising activities (Cook-outs, Breakfast sales, ASI Fairs, and a Boat Cruise). We also partner with other Ministries such as Health, Community Service, Youth, Prayer and Personal Ministries.

In an effort to establish and brand our ASI Chapter, the following initiatives were done: The creation of a Logo, the development and launch of a Website (www.asibahamas.org), the creation of a Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/242SBC/), the creation of WhatsApp Groups for Executives and Members, and a number of promotional tools.

We have also taken delegations to the IAD – ASI Convention 2017 (Panama) and 2018 (Mexico).

We consider it a blessing and privilege and we are excited to be the host country of the IAD – ASI Convention and Expo 2019. This event will be held on August 21 – 24, 2019 at The Atlantis, Paradise Island. The theme is, ‘Reviving the Spirit of Service.’ The main guest presenter will be Pastor John Bradshaw from the It Is Written Television Broadcast.

It is quite notable that our passion for service to God and our fellowmen has dwindled. We are no longer as eager, excited or passionate about rendering true Christian Service through our talents, time or finances. It seems to be all about us and how we can please ourselves. The aim of this Convention is to rekindle the spirit of service as we seek to do all we can to hasten the Second Coming of Christ. ASI-SBC challenges you to develop and/or revive your spirit of service to God and your fellowmen.

As a prelude to this Convention, in partnership with the Personal Ministries Department of the South Bahamas Conference, ASI will launch the Reviving the Spirit of Service Reaping Evangelistic Campaign for one week, August 10 – 17, 2019, at churches in New Providence, North Andros, and North Eleuthera.

Ensure that you are part of these transformational events. If you are not registered as yet for the ASI Convention, please do so and experience this historic event which I assure you will be unforgettable.

The new focus of ASI has been shared across our Conference, leaving members excited! There are a few projects in the pipeline that we know you will be excited about so stay tuned!

By God’s grace, the ASI – SBC remains committed to fulfilling its mission. We remain hopeful that we will help to improve the quality of life of every Seventh-day Adventist empowering them to live a life of unselfish Christian service sharing Christ always.

-Ms. Shandera Smith, Executive Secretary, Adventist - Laymen’s Services and Industries.
