What is the South Bahamas Conference Youth Congress 2016?

Our aim is to develop regional unity and to set up a model for youth ministry in Discipleship, Community Awareness and Service for young people, 16-35 years old.

The Congress comprises two phases:

The first phase: (November 4th & 5th ), will bring all delegates, participants, as well as others, to Nassau, New Providence for discipleship, worship and celebration of what God can do through our youth. In the first phase youth will be empowered by messages from international speakers, dialogue to have their questions answered and fellowship in unity. Thereby connecting with their regional and world youth leaders.

The second phase: (November 6th) will launch a Community Outreach Initiative called ¨Impact Bahamas¨ with a Community March by the Pathfinder Band, Pathfinders, Masterguides and Adventist Youth Federations (AY). The march will climax with the painting of a house in a community. The aim is to have local Church A.Y. Societies to adopt and implement their own community projects.

Who Can Attend? While this is an open experience for all, the event is purposely organized for youth between the ages of 16 and 35 and their leaders. All churches and educational institutions are urged to send young people and their leaders to this life-changing event. The Age limit does not apply to leaders but the ratio of leaders to youth must and will be balanced.

Biography Gilbert of R. Cangy

Gilbert R. Cangy is the Youth Director of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Gilbert was born of missionary parents in the Seychelles Islands. He grew up in Mauritius with his six brothers and sisters and joined the Merchant Navy as a cadet officer after his high school years. He gave his heart to Jesus while still at sea in December 1975 and came back home to Mauritius where he got involved in his local church as the youth leader. Gilbert followed his childhood sweetheart Rosemay to Australia in 1981 where they were married. They have two children: Joel and Emilie.

Gilbert graduated from Avondale College in 1987 and pastored in the state of Victoria for six years before being called to be Youth Director in Sydney in 1993. In 1999, he was appointed as the Director for Youth Ministries for the South Pacific Division. In 2009, he asked for a change to pastor a local church in Sydney, from where he was called to be the General Conference Youth Director in 2010. Gilbert obtained a Masters in Youth Ministry from La Sierra University in 1997 and in 2015 he completed a Doctoral program from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California

He has an interest in all sports, particularly soccer, and loves music. His dream is to see youth take hold of the mission of the church and stand up as a global movement for Jesus to bring hope and meaning to our hopeless world.

One of Gilbert’s favorite Bible verses is “And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanors, by love, by faith, by integrity.”
