About twenty biology students and a few faculty members, from Southern Adventist University (SAU) located in Tennessee, USA, visited North Andros for their two-week annual biology field trip in August of 2017. This was also SAU third mission trip to North Andros. In addition to studying the marine life and ecology of the island they were involved in missionary work.
On Sabbath, August 12, 2017, the students and faculty of SAU conducted special services at the Lowe Sound Seventh-day Adventist Church. The coordinator of the trip and the Sabbath service was Dr. Ben Thornton (Photo left). It was a joint Sabbath worship day for the three Adventist Churches in the area of which Lamar Franklyn is the non-resident pastor. The churches are Lowe Sound, Red Bay and Living Hope Seventh-day Adventist Churches. The Lowe Sounds church is the largest and located no too far from the beautiful sea shore in North Andros.
The students of SAU also donated funds towards the church’s renovations due to damages caused by Hurricane Matthew in 2016. The theme for the district is “Every member a missionary?
