A Tribute to Christian Mothers
A mother’s love is something
That no one can explain—
It’s made of deep devotion
Of sacrifice and pain.
It is endless and unselfish
And enduring come what may.
For nothing can destroy it or take the love away.
- Anonymous

I don’t need to write an epic explaining how hard it is to be a mother, or an essay listing out the innumerable sacrifices that mothers make for their children daily.  In fact, it is a universal truth that true motherhood is physically demanding, emotionally exhausting and mentally taxing.

Today, Christian mothers are especially tasked with raising God-fearing children in a generation where Christian morals and beliefs have lost their cruciality, a task that not only requires a great amount of strength but one that is so demanding it often becomes the focus of their lives. And while godly motherhood is admired, Christian women should not find their sole identity in it but instead, it should be a marvelous consequence of answering to their first calling—being daughters of the Heavenly Father. That is what separates Christian mothers from all others.

Motherhood is a gift God has given women to draw them closer to him and allow them to experience a different kind of love. The love between any parent and child is unlike any other relationship God has given us, even more so between mothers and their children.

I believe that Christian mothers are the truest reflection of the love of God and he has given them a special purpose in the family. Mothers are admonished in Titus 2:4 and Proverbs 6:20to love their children and to follow God and rely on His wisdom and promises to teach their children.

God should be at the center of every relationship, and this includes the relationships mothers have with their kids. However, God doesn’t call only women with biological children to be mothers. God commissions every woman to guide, encourage and nurture those around them. So, this Mother’s Day, I thank you, not only for your endless sacrifices, encouragement, and love but for being women of God and a model for us to look up to. Happy Mother’s Day. --Ms. Shamara Thomas, Adventist Youth, Good News Church.
