Prayer Power

Recently, I have been involved in a number of functions in the context of the Christian faith and I have heard a number of individuals, leaders and all speak and teach about prayer. To my amazement, though we speak and teach so eloquently, very few practice the art of prayer. This therefore begs me to question: “Why is it that we (Christians) pray so little if this is where our power comes from?

You would really be amazed to discover that this is not only a problem for us modern day disciples, however for the disciples of old they too were challenged with art of praying.

As they returned from their busy scheduled one day, they noticed Jesus pouring out his supplications to His Father with great intensity and thus posited the question “Lord Teach Us to Pray?” To this request Jesus taught them the model prayer.

Here a few simply suggestions to make our   prayer life a little more vibrant and consistent:

1. Pray early in the morning
2. Pray out loud.
3. Pray earnestly
4. Pray persistently
5. Pray in faith
6. Pray for the Holy Spirit
7. Pray of others

In the book “Steps to Christ” written by Ellen G. White she reminds us that “The darkness of the evil one encloses those who neglect to pray”. For me as a Seventh-day Adventist

Christian I am reminded by this statement that prayer ought to be a priority therefore I need to be really consistent in my prayer life for me to experience the power of the Holy Spirit.

On this day let’s set aside intentionally specific times for prayer. Let us seek the Lord now. Let us use the power that is available to us through prayer. --Pastor Leonardo Rahming, Prayer Ministries Coordinator.
