Christ, Our Only Hope

A message from the President

My brothers and sisters, I greet you in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.   It is with a heavy heart that I greet you, as Hurricane Dorian has severely impacted all of us. I extend sincere condolences to all those who have lost loved ones as a result of this catastrophic storm.

As the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists launch a strategic plan to assist with recovery efforts to persons in the Northern Bahamas, we pause to give God thanks for His tremendous grace and mercy toward the thousands who survived. If it wasn’t for God’s mercy, things could have been much worse, therefore, we cling to the promises of Jesus who said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”

As we continue to pray, for our brothers and sisters in the affected areas, we now begin the process of preparing to assist as best as we can.   All of our Departments are mobilizing to bring their expertise to assist in our relief efforts.  Most urgently, our Pastors will (in all of our churches this Sabbath and the next) appeal to every member to donate whatever they can, as we seek to raise $50,000.00 immediately; however, our goal is $100,000.00 to be directed to the relief efforts.

The Adventist Disaster Relief Agency (ADRA), is in our nation’s capital assisting with the way forward; and at the same time, our Community Services Department is working closely with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to render further assistance.

Here are some crucial steps for the way forward:

  1. The official Command Center for relief supplies is the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Headquarters on Tonique Williams-Darling Highway. If there are questions or concerns, feel free to call the office at 242-341-4021. Call 603-1530 at our Command Center, to register missing family members/friends, concerns or for prayer.
  2. Supplies can also be taken to our churches this weekend, where our pastors and Community Service leaders will be ready to receive your gifts and donations.
  3. Please go to our official webpage for information on Hurricane Dorian located on our website: www.southbahamasconference.org
  4. There you will find additional information and answers to most of your questions.  Our youth department is also sharing this information on the various social media platforms directing persons to this page.
  5. All funds should be donated through our churches or the account number on our webpage (also listed below). Persons abroad, that would like to donate monetarily, are asked to use this account number as well.

We have also established a Command Center at our Conference Office, the number is 603-1530 if you need prayers or to speak with somebody, persons will be there around the clock.

God has not failed us in the past, and we know He will not do so now. Let us continue to anchor our faith, and trust in Him, for He is Our Only Hope.

Pastor Kenny Deveaux, President, South Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
